Zoom Communications (ZM) is the post-WFH rerating story of 2026. The bear thesis was simple and dominated the tape from 2022 through most of 2025: return-to-office kills the standalone video-conferencing utility, hyperscalers (Teams, Google Meet) bundle their way through Zoom's TAM, growth resets to single-digit, and the stock deserves a flat-line SaaS-laggard multiple. The bull thesis was always "AI Companion turns the seat into a platform." In 2026 the bulls are starting to win.

The Q1 FY2027 print in late May lifted the stock from ~$96.75 to a $108-handle in a single session (intraday spike to $113.73), and the moves since have held. Revenue was about $1.24B, up 5.5% YoY — modest, but the mix is what moved the multiple. AI Companion paid monthly active users grew 184% year-over-year. Contact Center customer count grew 65% YoY, with ARR accelerating to high-double-digit growth driven primarily by paid AI features. Every one of Zoom's top-10 deals in the quarter included paid AI. The average analyst 12-month price target sits at $115 against a recent ~$108 print, and the consensus rating is Buy. This is no longer the "Zoom Boom hangover" stock; it's an AI-monetisation story attached to a 250-million-MAU distribution platform that the AI-first competitors don't have.

Hyperliquid now lists an xyz:ZM perpetual contract that trades 24/7 with isolated leverage, settled in USDC, in the same margin account you use for BTC, NVDA, and the rest of your book. No broker, no PDT rule, no waiting for the Nasdaq open to catch the post-earnings reset. Combined with Fomoed's free DCA, grid, and custom strategy bots, retail finally has an automated, around-the-clock, no-KYC path into a name whose biggest single-day moves of the year all happen outside U.S. cash hours.

Why ZM Trading Hours Are Broken for Retail

ZM trades on the Nasdaq under the same 6.5-hour cage every other U.S.-listed software name lives in: 9:30am–4pm Eastern. Pre-market from 4am, after-hours to 8pm, both with thin books and stop-loss restrictions on most retail brokers. The problem is acute for Zoom specifically because the catalysts that move the stock land at hours that map exactly to the post-close earnings window or the international trading-hour news cycle:

  • Earnings prints. Zoom reports after the close, which is the standard pattern for an enterprise software name. The May 22, 2026 print that lifted the stock from $96.75 to ~$108 happened entirely in the after-hours session — by the next morning's open the gap was locked in and the rest of the day was just digestion. Retail with cash brokers caught the post-gap action, not the move.
  • Microsoft Teams and Google Meet competitive milestones. Zoom's biggest competitors announce product updates at their own developer events (Microsoft Ignite, Google Cloud Next) and earnings calls. Every Teams Copilot expansion or Google Meet AI feature is a Zoom catalyst — usually delivered at hours that have nothing to do with the Zoom bell.
  • Enterprise customer wins / losses. Mega-customer deal flow (state governments, Fortune 500 contract renewals) hits press wires at the customer's local hours. International seat-count expansion or contraction often surfaces in Asian or European trading windows.
  • Contact-center ARR commentary. The Zoom Contact Center business is now the fastest-growing segment of the company. Customer wins against Five9, NICE, and Genesys move the stock, and those competitive press cycles are not synchronised to the U.S. cash open.
  • AI Companion product milestones. Every monthly active user milestone, every customised Companion announcement, every Anthropic / OpenAI / partner integration update is now ZM-relevant. These break on engineering-blog time, not market time.

The structural result: ZM has been one of the most earnings-gap-prone large-cap software names of the last three years. Single-day moves of 8–15% on prints are routine, and almost all of that move occurs outside cash hours. Retail traders relying on brokers either eat the gap or skip the trade. Hyperliquid's 24/7 perp closes the gap problem entirely.

The 2026 Zoom Bull Case in Three Lines

The rerating is not based on Zoom suddenly winning back the WFH growth narrative — it's based on three discrete monetisation levers that have moved from "slide deck" to "P&L line item" in 2026.

1. AI Companion — From Free Add-On to Paid SKU

AI Companion launched as a free bundled feature inside the standard Zoom subscription. The strategic bet was that adoption would compound on the free tier and convert to a paid premium SKU once enterprises wanted customised behaviour (specific tone of voice, retrieval-augmented generation against internal documents, integration with enterprise CRM and ticketing). That paid SKU — Customized AI Companion — is now in pilot with several major customers and started showing up in the paid-MAU number in late 2025. Paid AI Companion MAUs grew 184% YoY in Q1 FY2027, and monthly active users in total more than tripled YoY across both free and paid tiers by Q4 FY2026. This is the single most important number in the equity story, because it's the lever that converts Zoom's 250M+ MAU distribution into per-seat AI revenue.

2. Zoom Contact Center — Beating Five9 on Net New Logos

The contact-center business (Zoom Contact Center, plus the Zoom Virtual Agent AI overlay) is the second leg, and arguably the one with the longest runway. The contact-center market is roughly $30B annually, dominated by NICE, Genesys, Five9, and Avaya, and is mid-stage in its shift to cloud-native architectures. Zoom is winning net-new logos at a 65% YoY clip with AI-features as the differentiator. The unit-economics matter: contact-center seats are higher-ARPU and higher-margin than Zoom Meetings seats, and the multi-product attach (Meetings + Phone + Contact Center on a single platform) is the killer for enterprises consolidating away from best-of-breed point solutions.

3. Customised AI + Vertical SKUs

The third leg is the longer-term optionality story. Customised AI Companion can be tuned per-customer with proprietary data, brand voice, and workflow integrations. That's a foundation for vertical SKUs — healthcare AI (HIPAA-compliant clinical-note generation), legal AI (matter-aware meeting summarisation), financial-services AI (compliance-aware recording). Zoom's regulatory certifications, FedRAMP authorisations, and enterprise distribution give it a meaningful go-to-market advantage in regulated verticals where general-purpose AI tools struggle.

What this mix means for traders: ZM is no longer "a video-call utility." It's an enterprise AI distribution platform with three growth vectors, each at different maturity stages. When the AI software narrative is hot, ZM correlates more closely with the high-growth SaaS complex than with the legacy WFH cohort. When the macro IT-spend picture weakens, the contact-center share-gain story provides a counter-cyclical buffer because enterprises consolidate vendors during budget pressure.

Setting Up a Zoom Trading Bot on Hyperliquid

Three free strategy templates inside Fomoed are well-suited to ZM's price action. None require subscriptions, KYC, or sharing custody of your funds — bots sign trades on-chain via a builder code or agent wallet, and the USDC stays in your Hyperliquid account. Read the setup guide if you're new to the venue.

Strategy 1 — DCA Into the Post-Earnings Drift

Zoom has a textbook post-earnings drift pattern: the print causes a 5–15% single-session move, then the stock spends the following two to three weeks giving back 30–50% of that initial move as the headline-trader flow normalises. A DCA (dollar-cost-average) bot running on the 24/7 perp converts that drift into accumulation: instead of trying to time the bottom manually, the bot stacks orders at predefined drawdown levels with predefined position sizes.

  • Base order: $100–$300 — sized so a 50% drawdown of your full ladder is still inside your risk budget.
  • Safety orders: 4–6 layers — wider spacing as you go deeper (1.5× step factor) so the average price falls fast on the back half of the move.
  • Take profit: 2.5–4% from the average entry — ZM's post-earnings drift rarely round-trips fully without an interim 3–4% bounce.
  • Trigger filter: RSI < 35 on the 1-hour chart, optionally with a 200-EMA trend filter on the daily to skip drawdowns that are part of a full structural breakdown after a guidance cut.

The full DCA setup walkthrough generalises one-for-one to ZM — only the pair name changes.

Strategy 2 — Grid the Inter-Earnings Range

ZM spends most of its life in a defined range between quarterly prints. The four-to-six-week windows between earnings tend to be range-bound mean-reversion environments unless a competitive headline (Microsoft Teams Copilot update, Google Meet AI feature) breaks the pattern. That's the textbook environment for a grid bot: define a range, slice it into 10–18 grid levels, and let the bot buy each rung on the way down and sell each rung on the way up.

  • Range: set the upper bound at the post-earnings high; lower bound at the prior consolidation low / 50-EMA on the daily. For ZM's recent ranges that's typically a 15–22% band.
  • Levels: 12–18 grid lines for arithmetic spacing; 10–14 for geometric.
  • Per-level size: 1/N of your total grid capital where N is the level count.
  • Stop-loss / unwind: set a hard floor 5–8% below the range bottom; if ZM breaks that, the grid unwinds and you reset the range after the next quarterly cycle.

Our free grid bot handles arithmetic, geometric, and Fibonacci spacing; pick whichever matches your range character.

Strategy 3 — Custom RSI / Trend Strategy for News Reversion

ZM's news-driven moves — Microsoft Teams Copilot announcements, contact-center customer wins, AI MAU disclosures — over-extend because the stock is widely-followed by both AI-narrative chasers and legacy WFH-cycle holdouts. A simple mean-reversion custom strategy bot works:

  • Entry long: RSI(14) crosses up through 30 on the 4-hour chart while the 50-EMA is still above the 200-EMA (structural uptrend intact).
  • Entry short: RSI(14) crosses down through 70 while the 50-EMA is still below the 200-EMA (structural downtrend intact).
  • Scale-out TP1: 50% of position at touch of the 12-EMA.
  • Scale-out TP2: remaining 50% at touch of the 45-EMA.
  • Stop loss: 2.5–3% beyond the entry candle's extreme; move to break-even on TP1 fill.

This is a reversion setup, not a continuation setup. It expects ZM to over-shoot a news-driven move and mean-revert within the structural trend. Backtest the template inside Fomoed's free backtest sandbox before deploying live; the sandbox runs the same engine the live bot uses, so a clean backtest on a 12-month window is the closest available analog to "this will work."

Pair Trades — Long ZM / Short MSFT, Long ZM / Short FIVN

The classic ZM pair on enterprise-software desks is long ZM / short MSFT as a relative-value play. The hedge cancels most of the broader software-cycle beta and isolates the bet that Zoom's AI Companion monetisation moves faster than Microsoft can bundle Teams Copilot into the broader Microsoft 365 base. It's an asymmetric pair — Microsoft is a $3T+ market cap; Zoom is roughly $30B — so dollar-notional matching is what matters. The buyside thesis is that Zoom's per-seat AI revenue grows from a low base while Microsoft's Copilot revenue grows on a denominator that's already absorbed most of the upside.

The second pair is long ZM / short FIVN (Five9), which is a pure contact-center share-gain play. Both companies sell into the same enterprise contact-center buyers, both are mid-cap, and the historical correlation makes the hedge work. The pair expresses the view that Zoom's multi-product platform (Meetings + Phone + Contact Center) wins net-new logos faster than Five9's pure-play CCaaS positioning.

On Hyperliquid the implementation is two perp orders in the same isolated-margin account. Net delta to the hedge leg is roughly zero. Funding cost is the difference between the two funding rates. P&L is the relative move between the two legs. You can automate either pair with two bots running in opposite directions on the same Fomoed account — the position sizes lock together and the bots auto-rebalance on funding.

Fee Math — Broker vs Hyperliquid Perp

The cost-of-trading argument matters for ZM because the earnings-cycle round-tripping pattern racks up a lot of spread in cash brokers, and short borrow during MSFT-Copilot news cycles can spike. Take a $10,000 ZM round-trip with three intra-week trades:

Cash broker (Robinhood, Schwab, Fidelity):

  • Commission: $0 on most U.S. retail brokers.
  • Spread + PFOF impact: ~1–3 bps per side during regular hours; widens to 6–15 bps in pre-market or after-hours. On three round-trips with mixed session execution, call it ~4 bps avg per side = ~24 bps total = ~$24.
  • Borrow cost on the short leg: ZM is generally easy-to-borrow at 1–3% annualised but spikes to 8–15% during competitive-news cycles. A one-week short at 4% borrow on $10K = ~$8.
  • After-hours liquidity restrictions: the post-earnings move is uncatchable in cash.
  • PDT rule: if your account is < $25,000 and you hit four day-trades in five rolling days, your account is frozen for 90 days.

Hyperliquid perp (xyz:ZM):

  • Taker fee: 3.5 bps per side = 21 bps for three round-trips = ~$21.
  • Maker fee: 1 bp per side, or rebated, if you use limit orders for at least some legs = closer to ~$10–15.
  • Funding rate: paid or received every hour. Software-mid-cap perps typically run 1–2 bps per 8 hours on the long side — over a one-week hold, ~25–40 bps = ~$25–40 on $10K notional. Funding is symmetric.
  • No borrow, no PDT, no after-hours liquidity cliff.

On a steady-state strategy that involves any short exposure, Hyperliquid's all-in cost is comparable to or cheaper than a U.S. cash broker once you factor in the borrow leg. For active traders the math gets dramatically better, because the borrow spike during competitive-news cycles is a real cost on cash brokers that simply doesn't exist on perps.

The single risk to flag honestly: funding rate spikes. When the ZM perp is heavily one-sided — usually right after a big earnings beat or AI Companion milestone when retail piles into longs — the funding rate can spike to 0.05% or more per 8 hours on the over-crowded side. Annualise that and you get a 50%+ cost-of-carry. The fix is to use the perp tactically (open, hold the event, close) rather than as a permanent buy-and-hold replacement; or to take the under-crowded side and receive the funding.

Risk — What Actually Moves Zoom Stock

If you're going to deploy capital on ZM, even via a small DCA bot, you should know what catalysts to expect. Five drivers dominate:

  • Quarterly earnings + AI MAU disclosure. Zoom prints in late February, late May, late August, and late November. The two key buyside numbers are AI Companion paid MAU growth and Contact Center ARR growth. Beats on either drive the stock; misses sell it off. The print is after-hours and the conference call is the same night — both outside cash hours.
  • Microsoft Teams Copilot expansion. Every Teams Copilot pricing change, feature expansion, or bundling decision is a ZM headline. Microsoft's earnings call commentary moves ZM in real time.
  • Contact-center customer wins. Mega-deal announcements (state governments, Fortune 500 contact-center contracts) hit the wires at the customer's local hours and move the stock 2–5% on the day.
  • AI partnership / model news. Zoom partners with Anthropic, OpenAI, and Meta for foundation models. Major model releases (GPT-5, Claude updates, Llama updates) often prompt Zoom AI product announcements within days.
  • Macro IT-spend indicators. Watch the Gartner CIO survey, the IDC enterprise software forecasts, and competitor enterprise-software prints (CRM, ADBE, NOW). When IT budgets compress, multi-product platforms like Zoom take share from point solutions.

The pattern across all five: catalysts are scheduled, cluster outside U.S. cash hours, and produce gaps that are uncatchable on cash brokers. A 24/7 perp turns those gaps into tradeable events.

Tax and Regulatory Note

Hyperliquid is a permissionless decentralised perpetual futures venue. There is no broker, no KYC, and the perp does not represent a claim on Zoom equity — it is a synthetic derivative that tracks the ZM cash price via a funding-rate mechanism. You are responsible for understanding the tax treatment in your own jurisdiction. In most jurisdictions, perp P&L is treated as capital gains or as ordinary trading income depending on holding period and trader status. Funding payments received are typically income; funding payments paid are typically deductible expenses. Consult a local tax professional. Fomoed does not provide tax or legal advice.
